The Talbot County Republican Central Committee (TCRCC) is pleased to congratulate Chuck Callahan, Lynn Mielke, David Montgomery, Dave Stepp and Wade Strickland, Sr. on their successful primary election for the position of Talbot County Council. The TCRCC is pleased to support all five candidates for the upcoming Maryland general election on November 8, 2022. Our Candidates are dedicated and energized to lead Talbot County forward and work hard to preserve Eastern Shore values while avoiding big city recipes for disaster.

Priorities

  • Ensure there is enough funding for recruitment and retention of Sheriff’s Department and Emergency Services personnel.
  • Plan for upgrading the sewer system in the County to address environmental concerns caused by failing septic systems.
  • Support Talbot County Schools Career Tech Program to give the opportunity to students to further their career’s past high school.

Overview

Chuck has worked tirelessly over the last eight years as a member of Council and the past two-years as President of the Council for the citizens of Talbot County.   His focus is to always do what I think is in the best interest of Talbot County and the residents of Talbot County. 

Qualifications

  • Served two-terms in the Council and as President for the last two years.
  • Owns and operates West and Callahan, Inc., a custom construction company started by my father in 1969.
  • Started and owns Eastern Millwork, Inc. a custom millshop, and Energy Savers, a company that provides energy saving solutions to homeowners.
  • Have worked on workforce housing for the County.

Lynn Mielke

Priorities

  • Fiscally conservative and supports a flexible tax cap.
  • Sensible development – protect the environment from over-development – opposes development plans for Lakeside at Trappe and the Oxford corridor.
  • Supports an Adequate Civil Facility Ordinance.
  • Keep Talbot County safe and secure by supporting law enforcement, Talbot Goes Purple.
  • Protect our way of life: agriculture, waterfowl, fishing, beautiful vistas.
  • Improve availability of emergency services, health care, and general hospital services.

Overview

  • Talbot County resident since 1979: Easton, Newcomb and Tunis Mills.
  • General practice of law on the Mid-Shore from 1979-2016 (retired).
  • Served as public defender for Talbot County from 1985-86.
  • Volunteer for Waterfowl Festival, Plein Air, and Tred Avon Players.
  • Former member of Miles River Yacht Club and served on the log canoe race committee.
  • Member Sts. Peter and Paul Parish; Serves on Women’s Guild Board current Vice President.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of Washington College, BA in American Studies (1972), and University of Baltimore School of Law (1979). 
  • Admitted to the Maryland Bar 1979.
  • Mediator since 1991.
  • Past president of the Talbot County Bar Association. Served on Maryland State Bar Association Judicial Nominating Commission. 
  • Served on Board of Mid Shore Council on Family Violence, Talbot County Pro Bono Committee, and others; CASA volunteer. 
  • Skilled researcher, experienced problem solver and advocate.

Priorities

  • Manage growth to keep the rural character and natural beauty of our county
  • Support police against efforts to make their job harder
  • Use oversight and budget review to make schools efficient and responsive to parents 
  • Control spending down to keep taxes from rising

Overview

I will work to preserve the heritage, values and way of life I found on arriving here 30 years ago. Faith, family and community are the basis for a good society, and they are disappearing across the nation. We must nurture them here in Talbot County.

I fought to keep the Talbot Boys here and pledge to protect us from all efforts by outsiders to impose their views on us.

Qualifications

  • David is an economist and former Assistant Director of the Congressional Budget Office, giving him the experience needed to control spending, limit tax increases, and manage growth effectively.
  • He is active in church and community

  • Followed in his father’s footsteps by enlisting in the US Air Force, serving in  the US, Europe and Central America.
  • Currently the Quality Assurance and Warranty Manager for The Whalen Company
